Pirkanmaa or Birkaland, known as Tampere Region is the second most populated region in Finland. The capital of the region - Tampere, has a long tradition of manufacturing activities.

The farms of the region have a national significance, supplying one-fifth of the broilers consumed in the country. Other important areas are livestock farming, bioenergy production, and forestry.
